Pastor Michael was raised in a Methodist family in Elgin, Illinois. He graduated from Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana and Divinity School at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
While in school he did field education at West Nashville United Methodist Church and Veterans Hospital in Nashville. Michael also served an internship in campus ministry at the Wesley Foundation at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.
He was ordained in the Wisconsin Conference, first as a deacon and two years later as an elder. Michael has served both large and small churches throughout the state, as solo pastor, associate pastor, and lead pastor.
He also taught college courses for Cardinal Stritch University. He led a jobs program for people who were chronically mentally ill, and was executive director of a non-profit agency in Wausau, Wisconsin.
Michael has been on several district and conference committees and boards, including the Commission on Religion and Race and the Board of Church and Society. He has been a Circuit Leader and currently chairs the District Board of Church Location and Building.
Michael and his wife, Shirley, have six adult children and three grandchildren. Shirley grew up on a family farm near Palmyra, Wisconsin and graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
Shirley is a mechanical engineer working at Federal-Mogul in Waupun. She also served as chair of the Board of Church and Society.
She enjoys quilting and sewing and has a karate black belt. Michael likes to cook.
Carol will be the friendly voice you hear if you call into our offices. She knows the ins and the outs of the church and the people who make up the church. She has worked in the Immanuel UMC office since January 1998 (and in other areas of ministry within Immanuel UMC since 1990).
Carol is married, has two adult daughters, and a grandson that she'll be more than happy to tell you about.
