Greetings people of God at Immanuel UMC!

My name is Rev. Dr. Heather L. Brewer and I’m very much looking forward to meeting you all. I’ve served in the Wisconsin Annual Conference for 15 years and was ordained Elder in 2014. Prior to serving in the Wisconsin Conference, I served for three years in the North Texas Conference.

I just graduated this May with a Doctor of Ministry in Community Organizing from Garrett Evangelical Seminary. It is my hope to utilize those hard-won skills and knowledge to renew churches and empower them to be truly responsive partners in ministry in their communities. My research project explored using the relational tools of community organizing to effect congregational cultural change. I discovered that more is required, but that tools themselves are extremely helpful in improving congregational communication, bringing greater unity of purpose and ministry, and encouraging greater participation. I hope that Immanuel will be receptive to exploring these tools further with me.

My husband, Peter, and I were married for 25 years. We lost him in December of 2016. Together we have three daughters and he gifted me with an amazing daughter of the heart. My two older daughters, Misty and Meghan, live in the mountain west. Meghan is also the mom of my 13 year old grandson, Leo, who often spends summers at “Camp Nanni.” My middle daughter, Hanna, is a cosmetologist who lives in Illinois. My youngest, Lucy, is a junior at UW-Whitewater, majoring in Spanish. We make a mighty team!

My ministry strengths lie in preaching, teaching and pastoral care. I love bringing together the many aspects of worship to make a joyous experience that flows, and I VERY MUCH look forward to working with the Praise Team.

I know that Immanuel is entering a time of healing and recovery. I hope to begin that process with you by meeting with as many people as I can, one-to-one, to get to know you, your journey, and your hopes and vision for the church. May our journey together be blessed and fruitful and may we all grow in faith and wisdom.
